| How to get rid of horrible hair knots & blush reviews needed. |
[09 Nov 2009|05:33pm] |
|
Question one: I have pretty thick long hair, which I love -- however, I get horrible knots in my hair, due to the thickness (not so much the length) and the only way I can get them out is if I pretty much rip them out. They're huge and gather into balls from small to medium, sometimes making a dreadlock effect. When I get my haircut done they usually thin out the thickness, which either rids my hair of knots or doesn't do anything. Most of the knots actually rest behind my neck underneath some layers of hair, but sometimes they end up on the sides. I can't really afford going to the hair place to get my hair thinned out every month, so I really need something that would at least rid or help get rid of these knots. So basically what I'm saying is that I'm really in need of a product that will help get rid of these horrible knots -- and possibly comb suggestions that might help as well?
Question two: Has anyone used Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush, and what did you think of it? I kind of have been steering clear of that line because their foundation made me horribly break out, but I'm very curious about this product. So give me the good, the bad, and the ugly reviews about this product -- because I'm kind of interested in buying it in their peach shade.

| Hair and Makeup Query |
[09 Nov 2009|03:32pm] |
Hi, I have a couple questions about hair dye and make up.
1. I want to go black with blonde or red highlights (I'm already a dark brown). I usually do a box dye for my straight black, but to get highlights I'm going to have to go through a hairdresser. Someone mentioned to me not to dye my own hair black first because the hair dresser would have to lift the black out and it would piss her off, but I'm worried about it costing significantly more to do a whole head and highlights rather than -just- highlights.
Thoughts?
2. I am makeup incompetent lately. I was really good at doing my face up for a while and then BAM! everything goes wrong. Specifically:
-I can't cover up my under eye circles without it being Kim Kardashian levels of obvious. The coverup matches my skin tone quite well, as does the foundation and powder I use on top of it, but all three together seems to highlight the goosebumpy skin I have there (thin skin + visible capillaries + lack of sleep, I'm lucky eh?) -I can't apply eyeshadow properly lately. It gets everywhere on my face or looks zombie-ish and I just give up on it. I want to go for a classy look, not TOO overdone, but enough to actually show...problem is when I try to make it "show" I end up with eyeshadow up to my eyebrows. -My blemishes are visible NO MATTER how much product I put on, especially my forehead. I can't get smooth without caking it on.
3. How do you do short hair? My mum never taught me so I never really learned so my one hair tool is a straightener and a center part...I want to have the sexy bangs-over-eyes looks and whatnot but my hair goes fuzzy, makes my forehead HUGE, is wavy as hell and inevitably goes back to it's stupid center part. And if I sweat, say if I'm dancing or whatnot, it goes completely curly and frizzy and won't stay put.
And for reference, here is a pic of me very done up for a clubbing night and with my hair done to the best of my extent. :( I look awful. Of course it's overexposed so you can't see the specific problems with my make-up, but you can get an idea of my face shape anyway and how huuuuuge my Rihanna-esque forehead is.
(I'm the woman, obviously...)
EDIT: More reference pics.
.Freshly washed hair- shows how wavy it is, my massive forehead and the only hairstyle I know aside from a center part (ignore my bare shoulders, heh) .Hair after I straighten it, at a longer length than usual, with my usual center part .A somewhat old example of bad makeup and bad hairdo- about a year or two ago .Ditto- straightened again .Frizzy hair + rapidly melting makeup while I dance .Another attempt at hairstyling

Hey ladies,
Since Urban Decay is having their Friends and Family sale (30% off!), I was just wondering what some of your favorite Urban Decay products are? I definitely want to take advantage of this while I can since I've heard good things about them.
Thanks in advance!

Back in May I bought this foundation brush (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P205828&categoryId=RPYMAL&navAction=jump ), which I've been loving. It's a great brush and I've never had any problems with it... Now, last Friday, I washed it, just like I usually do, and left it to air dry... It's usually dries after some hours so when it was looking a bit wet by the end of the day I was a bit surprised, so waited until the next morning... but that "wet" look wouldn't go away... when I looked closer it actually looks oily and dirty. I tried washing it again but it remains the same: oily. Now, I've always used shampoo to wash it (Pantene) and the foundation has been the same since I bought the brush as well (Clinique Superfit), what can possibly be wrong this time and how can I solve it? Any idea is appreciated, thanks!

| Skin care for the beef |
[09 Nov 2009|03:36am] |
Found out today my boyfriend washes his face with Irish Spring... I made this face D: He said he would use something else if I picked it out for him, so help me figure out what he should use.
He's usually all broken out and is pretty red sometimes. He gets cysts around his jaw and the sides of his face like right in front of the hair line as well as some whiteheads. In general it's on the oily side but he told me his skin gets dried out really easily and from the looks of it he scars pretty easily, too. I'm also not sure if this matters but he's Asian?
I was planning to give him some of my witch hazel for toner and he uses that standard yellow Clinique moisturizer which I guess is probably fine for him. What he really needs is a good cleanser and possibly another acne treatment of some kind? He said he used Proactiv before and it barely did anything, and he's also used some of the standard drug store stuff like Stridex. I think he needs something more gentle-- he's sensitive to BP so nothing with that, either. Any suggestions?

At what age do you consider someone too old to wear certain trends like miniskirts?

Hey guys - long time lurker, first time poster.
I've checked the tags and I couldn't find anything under this unless I'm just misreading it...I'm looking for a lavender concealer in Australia, preferably Melbourne but they seem almost impossible to find here. I'd prefer not to order it online as I need it as soon as possible.
Could anyone recommend any brands for me?
Thanks :)

| Carrie Bradshaw look? |
[08 Nov 2009|11:56pm] |
Does anyone have any tips for creating Carrie Bradshaw's look from Sex in the City? I found a couple tutorials on youtube, but none of them seem to address the sparkling/glittery eye makeup that she sports in several episodes...
Is it the shadow itself or is there some kind of glitter that the makeup artists use?
Thanks in advance!! :)

| Transitioning a wardrobe from summer to winter... |
[08 Nov 2009|11:59pm] |
Is there a way to wear this dress in the fall/winter? Maybe with a darker jacket and black tights/leggings with ankle boots or something? I love it a LOT but I can't decide if it's just too summer-y to be able to pull off this time of year.

What's the quickest way to get rid of a cold sore? I'm on what has to be my 4th one this year and I just don't feel like waiting forever for it to go away. Any suggestions?

| Betsey Johnson! |
[09 Nov 2009|01:44pm] |
Hi, I've been looking at Betsey Johnson online for a while, and I really love her designs! I am contemplating purchasing a cute evening dress from her, maybe not from this season but in the future.
So just wondering, 1. What do you think of the quality? 2. Does sizing run true? I think I'm a US2-4 depending on the brand. I usually wear a UK8 in Topshop/Dorothy Perkins/Miss Selfridge, a Small in Forever 21/Charlotte Russe/Wet Seal, and for dresses from AE I take a 4 if that helps. 3. Is it worth the money?
I'm a bit worried since they cost 400+ dollars and I don't live in the US so there's no way I can try it on. I might be heading to the States in May next year though, so I'll probably hold off till then unless I see a design I absolutely must have.

[08 Nov 2009|11:23pm] |
hello lovelies.
i have a quick tattoo question. i have been considering (strongly considering) getting a tattoo for a few months. i know what i want and it is about the size of a quarter, if that. the only trouble is : where do i put it?!
- must be covered for work, obviously - i'd like to have it somewhere that won't show up in a wedding gown (i probably won't be wearing a strapless gown; i sport DD's and these babies don't do strapless) oh and not getting married anytime soon, but y'know, i plan ahead :) - not on my hip. pregnancy + hip tattoo = no.
i was thinking of ankle, but then i could never wear skirts to work (depending on my job - i'm an advertising major!).
or, somewhere on my ribcage - but that has potential to strech.
any help? thanks in advance!

| washing out dye? |
[08 Nov 2009|08:02pm] |
i recently dyed my hair a soft black shade, and its literally an unnatural shade of black that I hate and my parents hate. It needs to be gone by Thanksgiving.
I was going to wait 2 weeks until I dye it again. I dyed it on friday but I dont know what can make it less intense. I was going to use the Garnier Frutis 100% Color Nutri-Browns since they have bleach in them.
Is there anything I should do to keep my hair healthy? and strong for the next 2 weeks?
I know its alot of questions but I'm really freaked out. I might be able to get my hair stripped but i only get 105 dollars for work.
Bottom Line: What should I do?

| I can't believe I'm doing this.. |
[08 Nov 2009|08:23pm] |
I've been feeling really down on my looks lately and just can't seem to figure out what to do about it. My hair is really thin/slightly wavy and now it's really boring because it's back to my natural color and I'm trying to grow it out. I'm not fishing for compliments or anything, I simply want your honest opinion on what I can do to make myself look better (hair, makeup, whatever). tia :]
( Pictures... ) Sorry these are really bad myspace pictures!

| Keep it or Trash it. |
[08 Nov 2009|06:36pm] |
A few days ago my mother gave me a jacket that was hers a long time ago. I mean, a long time ago. The jacket is from the 80's. Cool right? I mean, it's authentic. Sort of. I'm on the fence about it. What do you guys think:
[Edit]I guess we know what the verdict is, huh *wink*
